VHS Summer College JumpStart
The VHS Summer College JumpStart program, sponsored by the Viper Nation Education Foundation, is a two-hour per day, Mon-Thur commitment for the Class of 2018 to get a jump start on their college applications. Various sessions are available throughout the summer. Space is limited and registration is online through Naviance. Find more information here.

VHS College Coach
The College Coach Program is designed to assist those students who need that extra guidance and support to stay focused in meeting the various deadlines and requirements for submitting applications as they may not have the advantage of their parents’ assistance and guidance. Students may be the first child in the immediate family to attend college or first generation in the family to attend college, or a student who feels they will be lost in this process. An application is required (see below) due to Mrs. Rodriguez.

How Can I Talk to a Counselor?
School counselors serve students and parents, both in groups and individually, to help students meet academic, personal/social, and college/career goals.

Individual referrals to the school counselor for any concern may be made by the student, a parent or by school staff and administration. Students may stop by the counseling office during the school day. Parents may call the counseling office to schedule an appointment or a phone conference. Matters of urgency will be given priority.

Getting Involved
We highly encourage Vandegrift students to get connected and build relationships with their peers in and out of the classroom. One way to do this is to join a student club or organization. We encourage all students to visit the “Get Involved” wall outside of the library or the VHS Clubs and Organizations website to explore all of the options offered here at VHS.

Sit With Us Initiative
If you’ve ever been to a high school cafeteria, it can sometimes feel overwhelming: there is a lot of conversation, movement, and peer groups everywhere.

In an effort to be a more inclusive campus which promotes positive student relationships, our PALS and Student Ambassadors are encouraging all students to download the free “Sit with Us” app from the iTunes store. With this app, students will be able to find a group around them and have a plan before entering the cafeteria or other lunch areas, so they never have to resort to eating lunch alone if they do not want to.
