VHS Concert Band WINS State Championship!

Every other year, the Vandegrift High School Band has an opportunity to compete in the State Competition for Concert Band.

This past June, 6A Varsity Concert Bands across the state of Texas (called the Wind Ensemble at VHS) submitted three recorded pieces to TMEA to be entered into the 6A TMEA Honor Band Competition.  Throughout the summer, the Vandegrift Wind Ensemble (via recording) competed in a Region round of competition, advanced to the Area round of competition and finally advanced to the final State Round of competition which was held in San Antonio on July 26.  Each round is a "blind" listening, judged by a panel of 5 judges.  Of the 644 6A high schools in the state, only one is named state champion, with the opportunity to perform at the 2018-2019 TMEA 6A State Honor Band.

Vandegrift Vipers are very excited to announce that of the 16 finalist bands at the final State round of competition, the Vandegrift High School Wind Ensemble was awarded 1st Place and will be the TMEA 2018-2019 6A State Honor Band.

The students in this year’s top performing concert band will play the final Friday night concert at the TMEA State Convention at the San Antonio Convention Center on February 15, 2019.
